First brought to the attention of the scientific community in the year 1849, and the recreational angling (game fishing) community in 1873, it has taken 150+ years to resolve the identity and nomenclature of this giant fish of the Cauvery. With help and support from a number of individuals, institutions and funding sources, the results of the work co-authored by Rajeev Raghavan, has been published in PLOS ONE and can be read open access from http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0199328
