Dr. Rajeev Raghavan 

Rajeev is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Fisheries Resource Management at the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, the South Asia Coordinator of the IUCN’s Freshwater Fish Specialist Group and the IUCN Freshwater Fish Red List Authority Coordinator for the regions of Asia and Oceania.

Unmesh Katwate

Unmesh is a Scientist at the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), one of India’s oldest conservation NGO. He has a Masters degree in Oceanography from the University of Mumbai, and is currently a PhD Candidate supervised by Dr. Rajeev and co-supervised by Dr. Neelesh Dahanukar (IISER, Pune).

Thesis title: Systematics and evolution of small barbs (family: cyprinidae) of the Western Ghats

Anoop VK

Anoop is a PhD Candidate supervised by Dr. Rajeev and co-supervised by Dr. Neelesh Dahanukar (IISER, Pune). He has an undergraduate and graduate degree in Zoology from the Kannur and Bharatiar University respectively and started his PhD in 2017 with a fellowship from the Kerala State Biodiversity Board.

Thesis title: Taxonomy and phylogeography of the Western Ghats hillstream loach genus, Mesonoemacheilus

Akshaya A

Akshaya is a PhD Candidate supervised by Dr. Rajeev and co-supervised by Dr. K. Ranjeet. She has an undergraduate degree in Zoology from the Calicut University, and an MSc in Industrial Fisheries from the Cochin University of Science and Technology.

Thesis title: Prioritising sites and species for freshwater fish conservation in the Western Ghats

 

Arya Sidharthan

Arya joined the group in 2017 for a PhD after completing her undergraduate and graduate degree in Zoology from the Kerala University. Her PhD is supervised by Dr. Rajeev, co-supervised by Dr. K. Ranjeet and funded by the Kerala State Biodiversity Board.

Thesis title: Impact of natural and anthropogenic barriers on gene flow in hillstream loaches

 

Ramvilas Ghosh

Ramvilas is a PhD student supervised by Dr. K. Ranjeet and co-supervised by Dr. Rajeev. He has an undergraduate degree in Zoology, and an MSc in Aquatic Biology and Fisheries from the University of Kerala. His research is funded by the Mohammed Bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund.

Thesis title: Taxonomy, phylogenetics and evolution of gorgonians of the Central Indian Ocean.

Shalu Kannan

Shalu is a CSIR/UGC Junior Research Fellow and PhD student supervised by Dr. K. Ranjeet and co-supervised by Dr. Rajeev. She completed her undergraduate degree in Zoology, and Masters Degree in Aquatic Biology and Fisheries from the University of Kerala.

Thesis title: Taxonomy and conservation of syngnathid fishes.

Shilpa Jose

After completing an undergraduate degree in Zoology (Calicut University) and an MSc in Biological Oceanography and Biodiversity from the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, she started her PhD in 2017 under the supervision of Dr. K. Ranjeet  and co-supervision of Dr. Rajeev.

Thesis title: Diversity, ecology and conservation of feather stars.
